May 8, 2013- CAOT-BC has sent a letter to BC Transit President and CEO in response to recent changes to HandyDART vehicles in the Nanaimo region that have resulted in reduced access for persons that utilize wheelchairs greater than 24 inches in width. The letter was also sent to the Minister of Transportation and Transportation Critic for review and comment.
Great to see ways that we are able to directly advocate for the people we work with. People with strollers and other mobility devices also rely on the space provided for wheelchairs, and often rely more heavily on public transit than people without.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary. We are also working with the BC Coalition for People with Disabilities, and they too have sent a letter to BC Transit and the Minister of Transportation.
DeleteHopefully, we will hear something soon.
