‘Cultural competence’ refers to the
awareness, knowledge and skills required to work effectively and equitably with
people whose cultural backgrounds differ from one’s own. There are two primary
aspects to culture – the values, beliefs, and practices of a cultural group and
the power, or disempowerment, associated with cultural groups within majority
and dominant cultures.
CAOT’s intern Chelsea Gordon will host a
knowledge-sharing activity which will explore IEOTs’ experiences of cultural
competence in Canadian practice including challenges, learning opportunities,
resources, and successes.
Cost: $15 Free for CAOT-BC members
