Working Together to Enhance Social Outcomes of Housing Investment
Elizabeth Tang, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation's (CMHC) Knowledge Transfer Consultant in BC

Changes to people’s health, household composition, or finance can impact housing needs. Successfully accommodating these changes requires a variety of strategies including housing models that integrates support services, and home design and modifications that respond to the needs and enhance quality of life.
Drawing on the work from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the presenter will provide an overview of: 1) resources available for occupational therapists to help their clients make informed decisions, whether they are seniors, caregivers, having poor mobility or low vision, or are simply planning for the future; and 2) the accessibility requirements in the National Housing Co-Investment Fund program for new and repaired housing units that promote universal design and visitability, and how input from occupational therapists can be valuable for builders and contractors applying for the funding.
