Lockdown may have led to loss of strength and mobility
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted occupations for many people, including both physical and social activities. According to a survey coming out of Scotland, two thirds of people over the age of 50 reported being less active now than prior to the pandemic. This is partly due to activities being limited or halted altogether, and people being discouraged from gathering to do social activities which may have also incorporated physical activity.
Occupational therapy services have similarly been cancelled or postponed during the lockdown periods, leaving participants without structured options to get their exercise and activity in. A new app called LifeCurve was developed to remind people to keep doing daily activities to prevent loss of function.
