An Irish teen has won a global tech award for an app that she developed to increase access to pediatric occupational therapy services for children and families. Thirteen-year-old Saanvi Kaushik is the daughter of an occupational therapist. She was inspired to create “Stellar” based on her mom’s work and a desire to address long wait times for children in Ireland wanting to access OT services. Stellar provides timely and affordable OT services to children and families, and allows OTs to conduct virtual appointments, create individualized client programs, and monitor progress.

In an interview with the Irish Examiner, Kaushik stated:

“As the lists get longer, more children are suffering. I thought there must be a way to use technology to tackle this. I hope that Stellar will support families by providing high-quality content developed by experienced OTs and allowing them to search for these services in their localities. Every child, no matter where they live, should have access to the highest quality services.”
