Taxi Saver Program--Response to CAOT-BC from MLA Harry Bains

CAOT-BC received the following response today regarding the letter sent last week opposing the discontinuation of the Taxi Save Program (from the office of NDP MLA, Harry Bains, Critic for Transportation and Infrastructure):

Dear Ms. Boniface,

Thank you for your email regarding Translink’s decision to cut the Taxisaver program.

Eliminating this program is a mistake. The Taxisaver program was designed to complement the HandyDART system to allow seniors and people with disabilities to get around more easily. These services need to be improved not cut back.

During question period this past week Harry Bains and Katrine Conroy asked the Minister of Transportation to intervene so the Taxisaver program is not eliminated. (Please see attached Hansard Transcript)

As a result of the pressure from our critics, the Minister responded by saying he is also concerned about the announcement and has relayed his concern to Translink.  The New Democrat Official Opposition will continue to press this government and Translink to keep the Taxisaver program in place and make improvements to the HandyDART system as a whole.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to write. Your comments and concerns are important to us.

Sincerely
Emily Zimmerman
Constituency Assistant to
Harry Bains, MLA (Surrey-Newton)
