In the News: Report Examines "Missed Opportunities" for Intervention

On November 21, 2014, The Office of the Child Advocate of the State of Conneticut released a report on the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School (Dec 14, 2012).

This report explores the role that weaknesses and lapses in the educational and healthcare systems' response and untreated mental illness played in this event.

Key recommendations in the report include:

  • Screening
  • Evaluation
  • Care Coordination & Information Sharing
  • Training and Workforce Development
  • Support & Engagement with Families
  • Education
  • Increase Expertise & Services to Support Children with Developmental and Mental Health Challenges

Among other therapeutic services, access to occupational therapy was highlighted in the report.
