Ergonomics for occupational
therapists: Conducting upper limb musculoskeletal disorder interventions in the
workplace (December 8 and 9, 2017)
In this
two-day interactive and hands-on workshop, occupational therapist clinicians
will learn and apply up-to-date scientific evidence and ergonomic assessment
techniques pertaining to the identification, assessment and intervention of
upper limb musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace. Participants will
practice the steps in conducting an ergonomic assessment in the workplace using
a variety of validated tools with videotaped case studies. Participants will
identify risk management solutions that focus on preventing further injury in
the job, or facilitating return-to-work of an injured worker.
Dr. Judy Village is a Certified
Professional Ergonomist in Canada and the U.S. She has more than 25 years of
experience conducting applied research, consulting and providing education in
ergonomics with a focus on musculoskeletal disorder prevention. Dr. Village is
an Adjunct Professor in the School of Population and Public Health at UBC,
teaching a masters level course in ergonomics. Dr. Village has over 100 publications
and conference proceedings and is frequently an invited speaker at conferences
and workshops across Canada and the US.

Integrating cognitive behavioural
therapy into your occupational therapy practice (March 2018)
Level 1 (basic)
This
two-day practical workshop presented by Gord Hirano is intended for
occupational therapists who wish to understand what cognitive behavioural
therapy (CBT) is and begin to use CBT approaches in their occupational therapy
practice. Self-reflection, lecture and hands-on practice opportunities will be
utilized to assist participants in learning a framework for understanding the
skills that support positive connections with clients, the foundations of CBT,
the ‘5 Ws’ and how to utilize CBT in occupational therapy practice.

confidence in using CBT in their occupational therapy practice.

opportunities will be utilized to assist participants in becoming more
reflective about their CBT knowledge and skills, as well as developing more
advanced CBT knowledge and skills.

Gord Hirano is an occupational
therapist with over 25 years of clinical experience. He is the Executive
Director at the Hamilton Program for Schizophrenia and is an Assistant
Professor (Adjunct) in the O.T. program at McMaster University as well as
maintaining a private practice in occupational therapy. Gord practices as an
occupational therapist and actively does CBT with adult individuals with
schizophrenia, anxiety, depression and chronic pain. Gord has obtained several
advanced trainings in CBT.
