Call for volunteers: Wellness Show


CAOT-BC will be hosting a booth at the Wellness Show taking place at the Vancouver Convention Centre on February 12th and 13th 2022, and are calling on you to help us make this happen. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity or would like to volunteer, please email us at caotbc@caot.ca

This event is an opportunity to network with others, engage with the public about all things occupational therapy, and promote the profession. We encourage students, new grads, experienced clinicians and any other stage of OT to consider this volunteer opportunity. Shifts are occur in half-day periods and you will be with at least 1 other volunteer.

CAOT-BC is excited to start planning the return to in-person events when it is safe for this to happen. We will be hosting a booth at the Wellness Show taking place at the Vancouver Convention Centre on February 12th and 13th 2022, and are calling on you to help us make this happen. Deadline approaching: CAOT-BC Clinical Representative on the Driver Fitness Advisory Group

 


The RoadSafetyBC Driver Fitness Advisory Group is made up of RoadSafetyBC staff and a group of medical professionals representing various professional bodies and occupational fields who have an interest in driver medical fitness issues. Driver Fitness Advisory Group members regularly provide expertise, advice, and recommendations to RoadSafetyBC on driver medical fitness issues, guidelines, research, and best practice.

This is a 3-year appointment with the term beginning October 1, 2021. If you are interested in this position, please review the information here. Interested members can submit a curriculum vitae along with a 1-page letter of interest to caotbc@caot.ca by March 31, 2021.

Volunteer Postings in India for 2020 – Seeking OT Applicants





An exciting opportunity to travel to India and make a genuine, sustainable difference in the lives of people with disability in rural India. 

When: January - December 2020 
Where: Amar Seva Sangam (www.amarseva.org), located in the rural town of Ayikudy, Tamil Nadu, is an organization for people with disabilities run by people with disabilities.

Placement at Amar Seva Sangam (ASSA) facilitated by registered Canadian charity –
Handi-Care intl. (www.handicareintl.org)

Job Description:
  • ASSA regularly hosts OT, PT, SLP students from North American universities (UBC, Toronto, Ottawa, McGill, Western, Queens, Manitoba, McMaster, Sherbrooke, Dalhousie and Colarado) for clinical fieldwork placements  (www.handicareintl.org/Clinical/).  
  • Interested OT / PT / SLP applicants will be accompanied by and supervise 1-4 OT / PT / SLP students from North America.
  • Provide bedside mentorship and teaching to the 12 PTs, 3 OTs and 1 speech therapists working at ASSA with the goal of exchanging knowledge. Conduct seminars/ workshops for the PTs, OTs and speech therapists.
  • Direct client care will occur alongside mentorship and teaching.
  • Area of focus can be tailored towards applicant’s experience / interest.

Walk for Arthritis: Participate or volunteer!

The Walk for Arthritis is the Arthritis Society’s marquee fundraising event. The Walk unites those who feel the emotional and physical pain of arthritis in communities across the country to fund a cure and improve the lives of those living with arthritis. It is one day of the year that people who live with arthritis can come together, laugh and cry with each other, and celebrate the strength and courage it takes to fight this devastating disease. What better way to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Walk for Arthritis, than by joining us in making this the best year yet!

Volunteer opportunity for occupational therapists


The Wilson Heights United Church Community Advocacy Program is seeking occupational therapists to assist with the assessment portion of Persons with Disability (PWD) applications.  Assessments are to be completed at Wilson Heights, by appointment during business hours, Tuesdays to Fridays. This is a volunteer position, however, the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction pays assessors $75.00 per completed assessment.  This work would be occasional, depending on the needs of advocacy clients.

CAOT-BC is seeking volunteers for the following events: 

Autism Speaks Walk & Resource Fair
Date: September 30, 2018
Location: Goodlife Family Fitness Autism Hub, 3688 Cessna Drive, Richmond, BC 
Description: Volunteers will represent occupational therapy at the CAOT-BC exhibit booth. This is an opportunity to connect with the public, answer questions and promote the role of occupational therapy for people with Autism.
Available shifts: 
  • 8:00am-10:00am (includes booth set up)
  • 10:00am-12:00pm (includes booth take down)

CAOT-BC has materials for a number of interactive activities for children and parents. Volunteering include one 30 min teleconference call in September for orientation and planning.

6th Health and Wellbeing in Children, Youth, and Adults with Developmental Disabilities Conference: Creating Partnerships
Date: November 8-9, 20188
Location: Sheraton Vancouver Airport, Richmond
Description: Volunteers will represent occupational therapy at the CAOT-BC exhibit booth. This is an opportunity to connect with families and other health professionals to promote the role of occupational therapy for children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities. 

Please note, volunteers receive an exhibit pass only. To attend sessions, an educational pass needs to be purchased here.

Available shifts: 
  • November 8 | 8:00am-12:00pm; 12:00pm – 4:30pm (shift times are flexible)
  • November 9 | 8:00am-12:00pm; 12:00pm-4:30pm (shift times are flexible)

Volunteer with CAOT-BC!

Are you looking to be more involved in your professional community? Would you like opportunities to network and share knowledge with others in your practice area? We need you!

CAOT-BC is currently recruiting for the following volunteer positions: 

  • Neurology Practice Network Chair/Co-chair 
  • Driving Practice Network Chair/Co-chair 
  • Rural/Remote Practice Network Chair/Co-chair

Chair/co-chair duties include: 
  • Setting meeting dates and times
  • Setting meeting topics
  • Responding to inquiries from group members 
  • Coordinating guest speakers, if applicable 
  • Chairing meetings 
Practice Networks generally meet 2 - 4 times per year. CAOT-BC provides support in planning meetings, managing registration, use of teleconference and webinar platforms, and advertising.
