HMEDA Webinar Series: Support Surfaces

This series of three lunch-and-learn presentations provide education relating to prevention of and care for individuals at risk of developing pressure injuries.  The presentations will be of interest to clinicians, home medical equipment providers, and care-providers. Each session is scheduled to begin at 12:05 pm, wrapping up by 12:50 pm.

This first session focuses on Clinical Concepts Relating to Support Surfaces and Prevention of Pressure Injuries, presented by Kelly Bethune, OT. The second session focuses on Properties and Applications of Foams and Composite Surfaces. The third session focuses on Low Air Loss and Alternating Pressure Surfaces.

Our purpose in presenting these sessions in sequence is to reinforce active collaboration between prescribers, equipment providers, and direct care providers to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Free webinar for Paediatric OTs: Mobile Coaching with Families of Young Children with ASD Using the Early Social Interaction (ESI) Model

The Ministry of Children and Family Development and the Florida State University Autism Institute invite you to a special edition of the Autism Navigator webinar series:

Mobile Coaching with Families of Young Children with ASD 

Using the Early Social Interaction (ESI) Model

The Autism Navigator team will share information about how to implement mobile coaching (e.g., telepractice, working remotely, video conferencing) to conduct meaningful coaching sessions with families of toddlers with ASD.

Since face-to-face coaching sessions may not be possible at this time due to Covid-19 restrictions that so many EI providers are facing, mobile coaching can provide families with the support and guidance they need for their young children with ASD to keep services going.

We will hear about the ways in which exclusion shows up at work: as bullying, and as the systemic bias that fuels bullying such as racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia and transphobia. We will also listen for stories where loneliness is transformed through the kind of meaningful connections that can develop when our work is a community.

Pre-register for free Pain Foundations course

Pain Foundations is an interdisciplinary online course designed to address the challenges health care professionals face when assessing and treating people living with chronic pain.

This course will enable health care professionals to:

• Identify and recognize the underlying symptoms of acute and chronic pain from a biopsychosocial and trauma-informed perspective.
• Use tools to monitor the biopsychosocial impact on the patient and to reassess their pain management plan.
• Implement non-pharmacological strategies to create a holistic treatment plan for people living with pain.
• Learn to guide the patient and place them in the driver's seat when pain management becomes a lengthy process.

The Pain Foundations course is free when you pre-register by December 31, 2018.
