Reminder: Pain BC Workshop

The next Chronic Pain Management for Occupational Therapists workshop is coming up in February. Due to COVID-19, this workshop is now offered online via Zoom and is accessible to occupational therapists and OT students from any region of the province.  

The three online workshop sessions (please note: participants must attend all three sessions):

• February 25, 2022 from 9:00AM-2:00PM

• February 26, 2022 from 9:00AM-2:00PM 

• March 28, 2022 from 6:00-8:00PM

BC Member Forum

 

BC Member Forum: We want to hear from you!

Prior to covid-19 we were able to visit various regions in BC to engage in conversations with OTs in various areas of practice and geographical contexts. We miss doing this, but it is still not yet time to be traveling around BC to resume meeting with BC members.

In place of our in-person forums, we are inviting BC OTs together for a virtual member forum. This will be an important opportunity to connect, and we will give updates on what we are working on. More importantly, we want to hear from you on what we can do to support, represent, and advocate for BC OTs! The forum will take place on October 28th, from 12:00-1:15pm PST. The Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS) is an innovative observational assessment that is used to measure the quality of a person’s activities of daily living (ADL). The AMPS is an ideal tool for occupational therapists who:

Walk for Arthritis: Participate or volunteer!

The Walk for Arthritis is the Arthritis Society’s marquee fundraising event. The Walk unites those who feel the emotional and physical pain of arthritis in communities across the country to fund a cure and improve the lives of those living with arthritis. Feeling Stuck With Your Client : Navigating the Therapeutic Alliance

Presented by Poonam Jassi, BSc, MBA & Veronica Takes, OT

For anyone undergoing a major transition, the journey can be full of peaks and valleys.  While there might be stages of forward momentum, there might also be points of “resistance”. This presentation will examine best practice in the most difficult parts of our work; when we feel like we lack the tools to spark meaningful change.  We will explore “resistance” as a normal part of change and identify strategies to get “unstuck”. We will provide practical tools grounded in the evidence-based approaches of stages of change theory and motivational interviewing.  We will leave participants feeling inspired to re-examine their most challenging situations in clinical practice.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to: 

1. Identify signs of “resistance” in our therapeutic relationships and to recognize resistance as a normal part of all and any change process.
2. Build an evidence-based "toolbox" for managing difficult clinical situations, based on stages of change theory and motivational interviewing literature.
3. Enhance self-reflective practice, allowing clinicians to move forward from these challenging situations with renewed inspiration and creativity.
