On behalf of Norm Letnick, MLA, and Chair of the Select Standing Committee on Health, thank you for your interest in the work of the Committee as it examines the projected impact of demographic trends to the year 2036 on a sustainable health care system for British Columbians.

 

As you know, the Committee has just completed the first stage of its consultation process - a call for submissions in the form of peer-reviewed academic studies and other high-quality research and reports. The submissions received will assist the Committee in quantifying the impact of demographic challenges, utilization, inflationary pressures, and other factors on the sustainability of British Columbia’s health care system.

 Further dialogue with British Columbians will occur at later stages in the Committee’s work – when the Committee undertakes to (a) outline potential alternative strategies to mitigate the impact of the baby boomers on the provincial health system, and (b) identify current public levels of acceptance towards the alternative strategies. This stage is expected to include opportunities to receive input from key stakeholders. We look forward to your further participation at that time.
