Capstone Conference showcases research by graduating Occupational Therapy students of the University of British Columbia’s Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy.
The conference is organized by the same students who present at the conference, and it is filled with rich and diverse research conducted in the year leading up to the conference.
Students work under the supervision of faculty, clinicians, and other academics in creating both quantitative and qualitative-based studies. Many of the students at the conference have already presented or are preparing to present at the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy and other national and international conferences and may be preparing to publish their findings in academic occupational therapy and other health care journals.
The conference continues to provide a venue for students to demonstrate what they have discovered at the accumulation of their education and just prior to their commencing Occupational Therapy careers. UBC faculty join clinicians, students and family to share findings graduates offer.
The first conference began with graduates of the first entry-level Master of Occupational Therapy in 2005. Since then the conference has grown both in quality and in size as the graduating class increases and students continue to build on the work of those who first started the conference.
Sponsors continue to be an essential element to the conference which has allowed students to invite clinicians and others without cost as a way of giving back to the many individuals who take on students throughout the years.
The conference is an incredible opportunity for Occupational Therapy students and members of the Occupational Therapy community to come together, network and build the evidence-base that the profession stands upon.
