CAOT-BC Private Practice Network- Update

The CAOT-BC Private Practice Network (PPN) met with ICBC on September 25, 2012.

Topics covered included:
  • ICBC (general update) -ICBC representatives indicated that due to several factors including the core review, transformation and strike, their resources have been focused on these issues. It was indicated that results of the ICBC audit will affect their overall business practices and relationships with all service providers to ICBC (e.g. retention and management of services). It was recommended that ICBC service providers read the ICBC audit report for more information about the recommendations made to ICBC.

  • OT rates- PPN members again provided information to ICBC regarding the request for a rate increase. The history of the fee increase process was reviewed as were the rationale for the requested increase.  ICBC assured the PPN that they valued their external OT partners and would provide information on a fee increase as soon as possible. No timeline was provided regarding the date when OT service providers could expect this information.

  • Report template(s)- PPN provided feedback on template reports (e.g.increased time to complete, layout issues, redundancies, content). ICBC confirmed awareness of the need for additional time to complete these reports and approved up to 3 hours to complete the initial report and up to 2 hours to complete progress and/or discharge reports.  The PPN also recommended that ICBC prepare a companion guide/document for OT service providers in order to provide additional information regarding the new report structure. In addition to the discussion at the meeting, a small group of OTs (Ricardo Nuno, Wendy Lintott, Pamela Russell, Tricia Earl, Giovanna Boniface) met with Steven Comberbach for a detailed feedback session in order to improve the report structure. A final version of the report outline will be distributed by ICBC in the next several weeks.

  • Performance Agreement-ICBC advised that this document is currently undergoing revisions and will be distributed to OT service providers upon completion. No timeline for completion of the document was provided.

  • ICBC Business Page-ICBC advised that a webpage was being created specifically for OT service providers. The webpage is currently in the draft stages and is planned to be a central repository for information for OT service providers. No timeline for completion was provided.

  • OT Authorization- ICBC will be testing a proof of concept pilot project for OT service providers in Metro Vancouver in the area of equipment provision. For some of the new files assigned, OT service providers will be able to arrange for reasonable and necessary medical/rehabilitation equipment or supplies, (required due to the motor vehicle crash), without approval from ICBC. OT service providers will have an initial $2000 pre-approved authority to place purchase or rental orders for 90 days following initiating services on a file. There will be a single source provider for this pilot project, BC MedEquip and no quotes or estimates will be required. The purpose of this service is to provide ICBC injured customers necessary equipment and supplies in the most timely manner in order to maximize recovery. The project will be applicable to OT service providers in the Metro Vancouver area only at this time.

The next ICBC - CAOT-BC PPN meeting is scheduled for April 9, 2013.
