Interactive Splinting Lab
This is an introductory splinting lab for OT’s, PT’s, CHT’s and students who wish to develop or enhance their basic orthotic principles and fabrication skills and learn to apply these skills to a variety of diagnoses encountered in a variety of settings including out-patient settings, acute care and remote hospital settings.
OBJECTIVES:
This 1½day hands-on lab will provide instruction on case-based splinting and basic anatomy with ample opportunity to fabricate 5-6 splints under a maximum1:7 instructor participant ratio. This allows excellent individual feedback from the skilled
instructors.
During this lab, participants will have the opportunity to:
• Learn how to problem solve and identify the appropriate splints for patients.
• Learn about common hand conditions and appropriate orthoses
• Learn how to draw patterns
• Develop fabrication skills and confidence for commonly used splints
• Enhance theoretical knowledge
• Learn helpful fabrication tips and strategies
• Learn about pre-fabricated orthoses and when to use them.
