1) Complete efficient and timely reviews of individual files including durable equipment equipment and orthoses request file review services to assist HAB avoid delays and file processing bottlenecks.
2) Provide competent, up-to-date advice to government on equipment procurement within established policy parameters of the Ministry of Social Development, Health Assistance Branch. This support includes responding to requests for clarification of information and providing professional opinions as requested.
3) Provide orientation to HAB adjudicators that could include overviews of commonly-encountered medical conditions and overview of medical equipment categories through printed material and hands on session within the first month of joining the team.
4) Effectively liaison with the occupational therapy profession, by way of problem-solving negotiations with therapists, and presentation of Medical Equipment Program related issues such as format and content of letters of justification, to the profession at large through public speaking engagements at seminars and workshops.
5) Negotiate solutions to difficult equipment requests utilizing clinical treatment options and occupational therapy prescribing practice to produce satisfactory alternatives for therapist and client aligning the client's needs, program policy and fiscal prudence.
6) Brief ministry staff, as necessary or when requested, on prescribing issues and the latest medical equipment technology and products.
7) Liaise with equipment dealers and manufacturers at trade shows, seating symposia and ministry meetings as well as receiving technical briefings and updates from the industry on equipment design and features.
