Changes to
people’s health, household composition, or finance can impact housing needs.
Successfully accommodating these changes requires a variety of strategies
including housing models that integrates support services, and home design and
modifications that respond to the needs and enhance quality of life.
Drawing on
the work from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the presenter
will provide an overview of: 1) resources available for occupational therapists
to help their clients make informed decisions, whether they are seniors,
caregivers, having poor mobility or low vision, or are simply planning for the
future; and 2) the accessibility requirements in the National Housing
Co-Investment Fund program for new and repaired housing units that promote
universal design and visitability, and how input from occupational therapists
can be valuable for builders and contractors applying for the funding.
