This 2016
report released by Raising the Roof provides recommendations for government and
community services aimed at reducing child and family homelessness in Canada. The
report is an outcome of Raising the Roof’s three year study of this issue which
included interviews with key stakeholders and the development of a conceptual
framework. Raising the Roof also identified “8 pillars” connected their framework
including child care, food insecurity, and stigma.
Recommendations
to community agencies and service providers include:
- Developing a coordinated system of care (i.e. common intake form, centralized intake, joint advocacy and fundraising)
- Providing trauma-informed services (i.e. providing outreach to clients, ongoing staff training and support, providing self-care support to reduce staff burnout)
